Behind the Scenes: Salon Hearth
At the beginning of 2019, we had the great opportunity of working with the power duo, Tori Smallwood, and Cat Thompson of Salon Hearth. In partnership with the carpenter of Desert Salvage, the design for the new east village flagship location came to life.
The vision that Tori and Cat had was very clear. They wanted a minimalist raw boutique feel with all custom stations. There was one central challenge - how to convert a loft studio into a hair salon that can fit eight full stations, three hair washing stations, and reception space.
Interviewing the hair stylists was crucial in designing the stations. Drawer space, plenty of counter space, and room to stand back and work was top of everyone’s lists. After one or two iterations, the designs for the main work stations, reception stand, and room divider were approved, and build production by Desert Salvage kicked into full gear.
Favorite items sourced were the bright sconces to go on either side of the extra-large round (and most importantly, non-beveled) mirrors and the pink custom Hearth neon sign.
Plants were crucial to the design, and once they arrived, it felt complete. The foliage of the plants softened the industrial hard lines of the space and added life and color to an otherwise neutral pallet. When in doubt - add more plants!
